Intelligent Energy is certainly a company to keep a close eye on, especially after being named as the 15th fastest growing UK technology company by Deloitte in 2013. Its recent release of the UPP, a portable phone recharger, has raised a few eyebrows with its wide coverage by the media. However, it seems that there is more to come in the form of full integration of the fuel cell technology into a wide range of portable consumer electronics. Only time will tell if this platform technology will take-off.
Our business model in consumer electronics is always B2B2C. It’s similar to ARM, licensing and mobilising an ecosystem around it, with the engine as the building block. What operators may decide to do with it, or a device manufacturer might decide what to do with it is entirely dependent on those companies, but what [Intelligent Energy]does is support any design iterations and deployment of that building block, in whatever shape or form.
